JOC.com reports on Union Pacific’s New Mexico hub expansion, and what this means for freight shipments across the border.

A vast Union Pacific Railroad terminal in Santa Teresa, N.M. allows the company to refuel long trains more efficiently. It also is part of an effort to attract more Mexican/American freight traffic from truck to rail.

This essentially opens up more freight capability for industries in Cuidad Juarez, about 40 minutes away. This area has been growing steadily over the past five to six years, following the recession, with companies like Foxconn, the electronics manufacturer, opening plants in nearby San Jeronimo.

This extra rail capacity allows shippers to reach better economies of scale than they could previously reach using truck transportation.

Whether you’re using Rail or Truck transportation in and out of Mexico, AMTR can make sure you are being billed and paying the correct freight charges.
